2. Smilodon

Smilodon was a saber-toothed cat that lived in North and South America between approximately 1.5 million and 10,000 years ago. It had a short tail, as well as powerful legs and forelimbs that helped it bring down large prey. The animal was about 7.2 feet, or 2.2 meters, from nose to tail.

Its two large upper canine teeth could grow up to 12 inches, or 30 centimeters, in length. These teeth were sharp and thin, and likely used for stabbing or slashing prey to cause fatal blood loss. Smilodon had the ability to open its jaws very wide, allowing it to deliver deep bites. It may have targeted the throat to sever major blood vessels and airways.
