9.Donald Trump
Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York) is an American businessman, television personality, politician, and the 45th and 47th President of the United States.
Born and raised in Queens, New York City, Donald J. Trump received an economics degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. In 1971, Trump took charge of his family's real estate and construction firm, Elizabeth Trump & Son, which was later rebranded as The Trump Organization. During his career as a businessman, Trump built, renovated, and managed numerous office towers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses. He owned the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants from 1996 to 2015 and licensed his name for branding on various products.
From 2004 to 2015, Trump hosted The Apprentice, a reality television series on NBC, where he became known for his catchphrase, "You're fired!"
Trump won the presidential election on November 8, 2016, against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and assumed office on January 20, 2017. Elected at age 70, he became the oldest person to assume the presidency at that time and remains the wealthiest person to hold the office. He was the first president to reach the Oval Office without prior military or governmental service. He was also the fifth to be elected without winning a plurality of the national popular vote.
After the 2022 midterms, with the exception of the Georgia Senate runoff between Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker, the former president announced his 2024 presidential bid on November 15, 2022.
In the Republican primary, Trump became the first non-incumbent to win both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. This was notable given the differences in their electorates. Iowa's electorate is largely evangelical, while New Hampshire's is more college-educated and secular. Trump clinched the nomination in a 49-state sweep, winning every primary and caucus, including those in Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and the Virgin Islands. The only exceptions were the Vermont and Washington D.C. primaries, which were won by former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley. The Vermont primary was particularly close.
President Trump joined a short list of individuals who have been nominated by their respective parties at least three consecutive times. This list includes Thomas Jefferson, Richard Nixon, Grover Cleveland, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and three-time Democratic nominee William Jennings Bryan. Trump sought to become the second U.S. president, after Grover Cleveland, to serve two nonconsecutive terms.
On the night of the 2024 presidential election, he succeeded in that goal. He flipped Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin while holding the states he won in 2020. This gave him a victory in the Electoral College with 312 votes to Kamala Harris's 226. This was the best performance for a Republican in the Electoral College since George H. W. Bush in 1988.
President Trump also became the first Republican in twenty years to carry the state of Nevada. He also won the national popular vote.
